Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

This year the Grade 6 students had studied the novel “The Breadwinner” by Canadian author, Deborah Ellis. It is about an 11-year-old girl living in Afghanistan having to go to work to make money for her family during the Taliban reign. From there, we used the novel to learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We found that 11 of the 17 UN goals were not met in Afghanistan. We continued to look at the goals and decided to look more closely in our own area and see which goals were not met and what, as a class, can we do about it. We decided ‘Zero Hunger’ was important and that the Breakfast for Learning program must continue in our school to benefit our students.

We are holding a lollipop bouquet candy sale and all proceeds will go towards the Breakfast for Learning Program. Students in Kindergarten to grade 4 can pre-order and the lollipop bouquets will be delivered to their classrooms on May 3. Students in grades 5 and up can purchase them on May 3 and 4 in front of the library during the noon hour. The bouquets will be delivered to the K to 4 classrooms for those who pre-ordered. Each bouquet is $1.00.

We thank you for your support.
