Dear Border Land Graduates and Families,

We recognize that the time since March 20 has been difficult and unprecedented for all students, and even more so for you as a graduate.  Throughout this time, Border Land School Division has been navigating learning from home and sorting next steps with regards to your graduation.  We recognize that this will not be the traditional ceremony you were anticipating and for that, we are sorry.  You are experiencing a loss. We want you to know we feel for you and are working to do whatever is possible to honor you this June.

At this time, some decisions have been made.  We need to be cautious and state that these decisions are pending direction from Manitoba Public Health.  We must abide by public health orders, so plans could change very last minute.

We want to honor our graduates in June by presenting diplomas and awards to students while wearing traditional caps and gowns. This small, one student at a time ceremony will be planned by your local school team and specific details will be shared with you.  These ceremonies must follow social distancing guidelines; your immediate family who lives in your home can be present for pictures.  These ceremonies will be scheduled and may take place over a day or more, depending on the size of the grad class.

Given the financial strain that COVID-19 has placed upon individuals and businesses, we are working to sort what scholarships and bursaries are still available. These awards will be handed out in June to support our graduates who will be continuing their studies at a post-secondary institution.

Parent-organized safe grad activities are separate from the school convocation, and as such, they will most likely occur at a different time.

We ask for your patience as we continue to sort and formalize plans.  More information will be coming to you from your local school administration.  Please know that we are thinking of you – Class of 2020!

Please stay well.

Sincerely,

Krista Curry
